First elected to the Board of Supervisors in November 1994, Don represents the diverse Fifth District, which encompasses over 700 square miles and includes the cities of Elk Grove, Galt, Isleton, Rancho Cordova and portions of the City of Sacramento. In addition, Don represents several growing communities which include suburban and rural agricultural areas, as well as the Sacramento River Delta including the towns of Freeport, Hood, Courtland, Walnut Grove, and the historic town of Locke. The current District population is estimated to be more than 317,000. Don serves the people of Sacramento County on several boards and commissions including the Sacramento Employment and Training Agency, Delta Protection Commission, Sacramento Transportation Authority, Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, Sacramento Regional Transit District Board, Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District Board, the Freeport Regional Water Authority Board, Sacramento Valley Basinwide Air Pollution Control Council, Sacramento County Mental Health Board, and the Sacramento Public Library Authority Board. Prior to his election, Don served as chief assistant to former Fifth District Supervisor Toby Johnson for 16 years. Don and his wife Brenda are lifelong residents of Sacramento County, and make their home in the community of Galt. Don is a former member of the Galt City Council and served for more than 17 years as a board member with the Galt High School District Board of Trustees. Both Don and Brenda attended local schools and Don is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government/Journalism.
