About Supervisor Jimmie Yee - Jimmie Yee was elected to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors in June 2006 and sworn into office on January 9, 2007 representing the Second District.

Jimmie is a native of Sacramento. He attended local public schools prior to graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. After beginning his career with the State of California in 1956, he started his own consulting structural engineering firm in 1966. During his 25 years of ownership, his firm grew to one of the largest consulting structural engineering firms in the Sacramento Valley. His company designed many of Sacramento’s landmark buildings including the Sacramento Convention Center, Capitol Bank, Riverview Plaza and Sutter General Hospital.

Jimmie is licensed as a Civil and Structural Engineer in California, and previously held licenses in Nevada, Oregon and Washington as well. He is a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineers Association of California.

Among Jimmie’s many accomplishments, he served on the Sacramento City Civil Service Board, the Sacramento City Planning Commission, and the Sacramento Community Relations Advisory Committee to the Sacramento Police Department. He was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He represented the State of California at the national level as a member of the National Council of Engineering Examiners. In 2003, he was appointed by Governor Gray Davis to serve as a member of the California Seismic Safety Commission.

In 1992, Jimmie was elected to a four-year term on the Sacramento City Council representing Council District Four. He was re-elected in 1996 and in 2000. On December 14, 1999, Councilmember Jimmie Yee was unanimously selected as Mayor by the Sacramento City Council to fulfill the remainder of the term of the late Mayor Serna for the year 2000.

During his 12 years of service on the City Council as Mayor and Councilmember, Jimmie served on many boards and commissions, including the Mayors Commission on Development, the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, the Water Advisory Board, the American River Water Resources Committee, the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Commission, the Sacramento Transportation Authority, the Sacramento-Yolo Port Authority, the Sacramento City-County Solid Waste Joint Powers Authority, the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District, the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, the Sacramento-Placerville Transportation Corridor Joint Powers Authority, the Sacramento City-County Public Library Joint Powers Authority, the Northern California World Trade Center Board, the Sacramento Regional Arts Facilities Financing Authority, the Music Circus Joint Powers Authority, the Sacramento River Corridor Planning Authority, and the Local Agency Formation Commission.

Over the years, Jimmie has been active with many organizations and causes throughout the Sacramento community. He organized the first Asian bone marrow drive in the United States in 1989, registering more than 2,500 people in that effort. He has been a member of the Sacramento Optimist Club, Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation, the Chinese American Council of Sacramento, and the Sacramento Chinese Drum and Bugle Corps. He is also a member of the Sacramento Golf Council, the Sacramento Region Sports Education Foundation Advisory Committee, and the SAY-GOLF Advisory Board to First Tee of Greater Sacramento.

Jimmie Yee has been married to his wife Mary for ­­­52 years. They have six children, all college graduates and married, and are the proud grandparents of 17 grandchildren.
